Mizell Family History Project

How we got started

My father’s family knew their ancestors back to the late 1700s, which turned out to be the fifth generation from Luke I.  It seems that many of us know our roots back to the fifth, sixth or seventh generations, but get stuck there.  The inspiration for this web site is to help all of you get past that block in the road!

This web site has grown from a great interest in the history of the Mizell and related families.  Students of family history all seem to spend years ignoring their heritage, and one day wake up asking lots of questions.

That leads to starting some type of family tree, even if it is only on paper.  And at some point later, we start using a computer.

Genealogy can be a fascinating hobby and can lead to great personal satisfaction knowing the people and places where we came from.  There always seems to be another question that can be asked or another assignment that can be tackled.  May this website help you on your journey.

If you want more information, you can reach me at david@mizell.info.  For the last several years my interest has focused on mapping the Mizell Family Tree from Luke I, where ever it leads.

We would welcome any information that you could share about your branch of the Mizell family.  And we would be happy to try and help you learn more about your ancestors.

We have published the Third Edition of the Mizell Family History in 2006 before the Second National Mizell Reunion.  That book has 250 pages, 3,700 people in the first 12 generations descended from Luke, plus an index to all people listed.  There are some copies left and available on a first-come basis for $25 ($20 for the book, $5 postage).

The next big Mizell Reunion is being planned for August 2008 in Branson, Missouri.  If you want more inform-ation, contact Bill and Karon Mizell at reunion2008@mizell.info.
